Today in Holmes Heroes we are working on making posters to explain are school why we need to help Congo we first started making food security poster the Mr.Swartz told that if that is the real problem that was that Coltan is the BIG problem because it is causing war and child labor
Here is a poster we made:
I suffer just.jpg
Many kids are working really young just to find coltan in Congo so today we are making poster so our school can understand the problem and get involved next year to help us make an impact in Congo and try to stop child labor in Congo. Yesterday we went to We Day it was an awesome reward for working so hard all this year we saw a lot of inspiring people.

Today we were researching and trying to find some examples of  public service announcement (PSA) we could use to make our own and to spread awareness. Some were looking at them and printing them others were making them in paper. Some of us found new information about Congo. And we decided to make some hang posters. We are going to hang some p.s.a's around our school and hope that the students read them and understand what is happening in Congo.

Congo Food Security to Congo war

Congo Food Security to Congo war

This week we were deciding to slowly change the message we were trying to send. At the beginning our plan was to help the food security in Congo but as develop further into it, we saw it in a different perspective.

The cause of the food security was the war. And the cause of the war was the precious minerals, like colton that are used in our phones. With the war we have slaves, child labor, and raping for women. In fact, Congo is one of the most dangerous place for women to live. There are also child soldiers there, which makes it dagerous for kids to live their too.

At Mr.Schartz's church they are also doing a project on Congo. They have a really cool exhibit, and so here are some pictures.

This week in Holmes Heros, we were trying to find powerful quotes. We want people in the hallway to stop and read them. We want to spread the word about helping food security in Congo. The situation in Congo is getting worse. We need to help them.

Today we are trying to send a message to people in our school about the food security in Congo. We are looking for powerful quotes that people in the hallway will stop to read. Our end of the year goal is spread our message. We want to help with the food security in Congo. Life is hard there after the war. Food is scarce, and people are starving because of that.

Advertising our mission!

During Holmes Hero's on Friday the global group made posters to advertise our problem. Some people advertised our problem and some the mission. We put quotes based on thoughts and made cool edits for our posters. Many of the people in the group were really inspired by Andrew (the guy from Congo) that they really wanted to show our school this problem. They made really cool and impressive posters that could really present our problem to people in a fun way. Most people could walk by most posters in a hallway and ignore them. Very few would actually take a second and read it. We wanted to make posters that will bring peoples attention to it. If people would just listen to what we have to say we could make a difference in this situation, all we need it HELP. This is what I want you to think about when you hear about Congo. How would you feel about getting up every morning knowing that you don't have safe food to eat. That you have to go

These are both examples of the cool edits people made to get peoples help and attention.
Comment down below how you think we could get peoples attention to help us with the problem!

Group Talk With The Congo Group

Last Friday The Global Group known as the Congo group from Holmes Heros of Holmes Junior High School was talking with a man that lives in The Congo and Works there his name is Andrew and he Told the group about some of the questions that they asked some of the questions are as for ¨How is the weather in Congo?¨ ˙,He replied Very humid and hot another question was how is transportation ,He replied The roads are terrible where going from Chicago to Milwaukee is about 2 hours but here it would take two days because of the tough terrain and that for cars there is a Toyota dealer close to there area. Andrew also was talking about how the time is changed to 7 hours ahead so when its 9 A.M. over in central time North America over there in Congo its 4 P.M. The group talked for about a good 30 to 45 minutes to Andrew with all there questions ,And now there all answered. Here is a picture of the group down below talking to Andrew.Picture taken by Mark Schwarz. Blog made by Andrej M.

Food security in Congo                                                              Week three

Our action plan for helping Congo food security is understanding Congo and the problem of food security

How bad is this situation?

8% of kids under the age of 5-One million kids- suffer acute malnutrition, while six million kids suffer from chronic malnutrition.  Child mortality rates are
among the highest in the world.

Where is Congo?

It is in west-central Africa and near the border. Congo seems to be a good place for farming but they don't seem to be using their resources to feed their hungry.

What is food security?

When all people at all times have access to sufficient, safe, nutritious food to maintain a healthy and active life.

Week 2: Researching about Questions

Friday January 29,2016
Week 2: Researching about Questions
1/29/16

Every single day we have 3 meals a day, breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Most people will say there is nothing special about eating food. Everywhere in the United States has a stable food supply, we can eat food and not starve. But have you ever thought about the other people in the world. Such as Europe, Asia, or even Africa. Well if you haven't you should start to because they might not receive what you do today. In Africa there is a water shortage in some areas. Research shows that Africa has the worst food security in the world, a small country in Africa called Congo was shown to have the smallest percentage. Here in the United States we don't have to worry about this problem because we have a president and smart government. In Congo there isn't a reliable access to a sufficient quantity of affordable, nutritious food. Everyday we should ask ourselves how could we create a better life for others. We want to change that but HOW

We came up with some questions to research about to help us accomplish our mission.
